Firecell’s Labkit Achieves the theoretical limit on Four Commercial Devices: A Game-Changer for 5G SA Testing.

Firecell’s Labkit is a lightweight telecom network packaged in a compact kit for testing and demonstrating 4G and 5G networks in your lab. Firecell 4G / 5G Labkit is O-RAN compatible – and supports 4G, 5G SA, and 5G NSA as an option. It Integrates Core & RAN, supports LTE-M and works on all sub-6 GHz frequency bands in TDD and FDD.

Firecell’s 4G / 5G Labkit is fully open-source, built from selected key components of the well-known OpenAirInterface platform.

Firecell’s Labkit has now achieved close to perfect 5G SA throughput with 110 Mbps on 40MHz bandwidth. The theoretical limit is set at 130 Mbps!  Four different commercial devices have been tested using 5G SA with the OAI CORE and the OAI RAN customized and configured by Firecell:

  • OnePlus 8 (Android 11)
  • CrossCall Core Z5 (Android 12)
  • Quectel Module
  • ZLT X01 dongle

This breakthrough has significant implications for businesses and universities that need to validate their 5G SA network with a variety of COTS UEs. 

With the full transparency and access to the source code, device makers, chipset makers and researchers worldwide can test their product and their development. 

Firecell used the following equipment for this test:

  • Firecell Labkit hardware
  • OAI RAN codebase customized and configured by Firecell
  • OAI 5GCN v1.5.0 (CORE NETWORK)
  • SDR B210
  • Four different commercial devices (OnePlus 8, CrossCall Core Z5, Quectel Module, ZLT X01 dongle)
