A product appreciated by our clients

Rafael Gonzalez Ayestaran
Deputy Head of the Department of Electrical

I would definitely recommend Orion Labkit, for the same reason it was recommended to me: It’s useful, affordable and quick to set up. The support that Firecell provides is essential, we had a training session and support with the technical team afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Orion Labkit is for indoor use in a lab. It will not radiate outside the walls of the laboratory and therefore you usually need not apply for spectrum allocation. For good measure, please check 5G lab network usage conditions with your country’s frequency regulator.

A Faraday Cage is not required and almost none of our clients use them. It may be needed if you want to test the same bands as the ones from telecom companies (and you are in a place where their signal is strong), or in places where there is a lot of interference, e.g. in a tradeshow. To avoid interference, you can more simply use a band not used by MNOs or other 5G labs in your area.

Firecell has selected a range of 5G devices from various partners, to meet various requirements and use cases:

  • development boards (Quectel RM500Q)
  • Smartphones (Crosscall Core-Z5, Crosscall Stellar-X5, Pepperl+Fuchs Smart-Ex 03)
  • industrial routers (Teltonika RUTX50, Teltonika  RUTM50)
  • USB Dongles (Tozed Kangwei ZLT X01)
  • mobile computers with integrated barcode scanners (Zebra TC27, Zebra TC58, Honeywell CT47)
  • Tablets (Zebra ET45)
  • connected cameras (Milesight MS-C2966-RFGPC)
  • Laptops (Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1)

If your 5G device is not listed here, please contact Firecell to check its compatibility.

Labkit supports up to 64 devices connected simultaneously.

Labkit is a hardware platform integrating an industry-grade version of the OpenAirInterface (OAI) 5G Core Network and 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) software, maintained by Firecell.

With Labkit, not only do you get a pre-installed 5G Network that works out-of-the box with the included Smartphone and SIM card, but you also get Firecell’s Network Management System, Firecell command line for easy operation, 64 active users (rather than 16), Firecell priority-based QoS. You also get full online documentation, support and quarterly software upgrades.
