Firecell Labkit is a low power open source 5G network, packaged in a compact kit with a reference device and SIM card, for development and tests.
We have defined 2 levels of support and maintenance adapted to our client needs. All customers with an active Gold or Platinum package have access to all software upgrades and updates, including new features. Our support team is available for real time support to help our Platinum customers from Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm CET.
Either Platinum or Gold support and maintenance package is mandatory for the first year.
The deployment of a private network is composed of two main components:
The Core Network is in charge of network management, data traffic routing and user management, authentication and encryption.
The Radio Access Network (RAN) is in charge of the air interface management. The RAN schedules the transmission of IP packets from the Core Network to the radios, and receives IP packets from devices via the radios, forwarding them to the Core Network.
Firecell Labkit is delivered with 1 Software Defined Radio (SDR) which supports 4G, and 5G in all sub-6 GHz bands, TDD and FDD. It comes with 2 antennas that perform best between 1,7 GhZ and 5GhZ. The signal reaches up to 3 meters (~10 feet).
I would definitely recommend the 4G & 5G Labkit, for the same reason it was recommended to me: It’s useful, affordable and quick to set up. The support that firecell provides is essential, we had a training session and support with the technical team afterwards
Firecell Labkit is a perfect fit for enterprises, R&D labs and universities who want to demonstrate and innovate using a real indoor cellular network in their premises.
Build and run Proof of Concepts and demos of your device or apps using 4G or 5G.
Test your robots, AGVs, industrial routers, connected cameras, smart tools, barcode readers and other devices with your own small private 5G in your lab
Kick start your research with a fully functional 5G setup, fine tune any part of the protocol.
Develop enhancements of 5G security by inspecting the code and the protocols
Train your team on 5G by letting them inspect how an actual cellular network works
Firecell LabKit is for indoor use in a lab. It will not radiate outside the walls of the laboratory and therefore you usually need not apply for spectrum allocation. To avoid interference, we would suggest that you use a band not used by MNOs or other users in your area (for instance Band 40 TDD in Europe, as this band is essentially used by MNOs in Asia).
A Faraday Cage is not required either and almost none of our clients use them. It may be needed if you want to test the same bands as the ones from telecom companies (and you are in a place where their signal is strong), or in places where there is a lot of interference, e.g. in a tradeshow.
All unlocked 4G devices are compatible with Firecell Labkit 4G mode.
All unlocked 5G devices are compatible with Firecell Labkit 5G NSA mode.
Following 5G devices have been tested with Firecell Labkit 5G SA mode: Simcom SIMCOM8200EA, Quectel RM500Q-GL, OnePlus 8 (with PLMN 00101), Huawei P40 and P40 Pro, Google Pixel 5G, Crosscall Core-Z5.
Labkit supports up to 16 x 4G users or 10 x 5G users simultaneously.
Labkit is the only commercial cellular network solution provided as open source.
With Labkit, you get access to the source code of both 4G / 5G Core and RAN. You can develop and test your own products, algorithms, modules and applications. If you want to contribute back to the OAI community, we will help you with the process.
Note : Proprietary Firecell extensions (GUI, Network Management System) are not delivered as open source.
New software releases are published by Firecell 4 times a year. They contain features, enhancements and bug corrections. You can upgrade your software version from Firecell’s repository with a simple command.
As long as you subscribe to Firecell’s Support & Maintenance, you get access to Firecell's latest software releases.
Labkit is a hardware platform integrating an industry-grade version of the OpenAirInterface (OAI) Core Network and Radio Access Network (RAN) software, maintained by Firecell.
With Labkit, not only do you get a pre-installed Private Network that works out-of-the box with the included Smartphone, but you also get Firecell’s Network Management System and deployment scripts for easy operation and updates. You also get full documentation, online support and quarterly software upgrades.
